MS says you should wait 10-15 minutes after rebooting before doing anything else. It shouldn't be this much work to use an operating system. I was working on fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium replacing Vista. Windows 7 Won't Update After a reboot I ran the normal Windows Update process and in just a few minutes it came back with 16 or 17 updates (don't remember exactly how many but it My drive had bad sectors so I put a 1tb drive in and updated from a backup.
Your best bet is likely to search for solutions to your specific error code (0x80070057).
