I have checked the File Types setting in Explorer > Folder Options - it's for adobe 8, and cannot explicitly make a setting for PDF files in IE as suggested in For some reason, after turning off the Preview Pane, it seems to take 10-15 seconds to take effect - and then you can delete PDFs freely.
