I have Dell laptop and this is just whatI needed. How do i log in as system administrator in windows 8? How can I upgrade to Windows8.1? All previous update info is removed during the Win 8.1 install.

Thank you! This may help others as well in the future: First I did a system restore back to “new” (it had been out of the box 2 days) and started from I triedcreating a new admin account, same problem. I bought an Asus T100 Win tablet in December that had 8.1 installed.
What the heck? They did a bunch of updates, activated Dell backup and ran a command line utility wsreset.exe that cleared the store cache, I'm guessing that is what fixed the problem. There is a message telling you that it will download automatically in a few days, but ignore that, click on the link for one important update, and choose install now (or Your Windows 8.1 Couldn't Be Completed I set that, and could immediately install 8.1.

Best I can tell, this and other forums have shown me how to add Admin capability with the Command prompt.
