Your external drive G: is correct except it should be NTFS under File System. I am deleting all the thumbs.db files now. That makes sense. Have you connected the external drive to more than one computer with the same result? Here's another bit of info that I have absolutely no idea if related or not: A few months ago, I thought my DVD/CD burner was shot because suddenly, I was unable I've tried reinstalling the USB driver and have made sure that the driver for the external hard drive installs correctly. Now, that could still be a symptom and not the real cure but for now I'll take what I can get.

I'm running Windows XP and my laptop is about 7 years old. Disabling Explorer Thumbnails I partitioned one of the disks with 200GB of FAT32 and the rest in NTFS to see if it would change anything on my laptop. - For both disks and both Zero Ice says thanks. I'll remove the external hard drive and everything will be ok....reconnect it and the problem resurfaces.
