Windows Search Service Cripples Explorer.exe
Did anyone in the real world look at Windows 7 before it was released? After doing a bit of searching around I found something called FixO. For the purposes of this discussion, an example system with the discussed problems is a Compaq Presario / Vista Business / 1.5 GB. nooot. his comment is here
My Windows Search is not working. Fortunately I had saved off my previous .library-ms files as my libraries were pretty busted. Unless you add the entire drive to the index this may not help you. Bungle says: Program is working for me and I'm on SP1 as well (64-bit, ultimate).
If you move from Windows 7 to Mac because of the search, then I can't help but laugh at you. You can add the network shares in your library, but they aren't indexed. Windows 7 will not index networked locations directly… FrankO says: 7 years ago This optimistic article is absurd. See this comment for the blank icon / empty libraries in Windows Explorer.
Bungle says: This has now been fixed in v1.06. Thank you!!! How do you come to terms with the fact that you might never be among the best in your research community? Bungle says: MS already have a command line utility called slutil as mentioned in the post and here.
I can't open My Computer, Control Panel nor any other folder on my desktop. November 23, 2010 at 1:14 am Rick says: Great tool but cannot get it to work stable, after adding a number of directories it becomes almost impossible to get a full Bungle says: Unfortunately, no they will not be indexed. If you can't move the files because they're "in use", try using Safe mode--you might have to use Safe Mode with command prompt--or download a copy of Unlocker for Windows, which
Win7 search can't find a file if I ask it to look for "*.*" and point out the folder it's in! I like having it right there in the corner instead of having to right click and select search from the context menu. I have just wasted an hour - and finally had to copy a large folder to a flash drive and find what I wanted using XP on another laptop. Any idea?
I tried loading the backup but when I applied the change I go not responding again. Best regards, xDRAN0x June 15, 2010 at 10:40 am Mr. I then go to the statrt button at the bottom left of the screen and type in to the search box at the bottom of the list a word I know However, the issue hasn't disappeared.
Thank you very much for doing what Microsoft did not ….! http://themenage.com/windows-search/windows-search-service-stopped-working-error-6801.html letting users choose where to put the taskbar, creating undockable toolbars), most particularly the utterly worthless search facility. The video didn't help much because it dealt mainly with library searches, not directory/sub-directory ones that I'm used to from XP. Robert says: 7 years ago It suddenly started to work yesterday, with no obvious explanation.
One feature request for furture editions: would it be possible to make the libraries (and their contents) sortable, either manually or alphabetically? Any of you. For example, let’s say your a programmer or web developer and you want to be able to search your code files like .aspx, .html, .java, .php, etc. http://themenage.com/windows-search/windows-search-service-fails-to-start-in-win8-1-pro.html February 26, 2010 at 7:57 pm Michel Fenbert says: There's even a video on it that can be seen here: March 1, 2010 at 6:07 am zmin says: external icons only
In Windows 7, I have no clue. Plus, it supports regex. Bungle says: I think it's unlikely, the program does not create any hidden folders, nor affect offline files.
Thanks again. –Mantis Sep 8 '11 at 0:56 Clearing the thumbnail cache has made an impact.
Forget any 64-bit OS. Those made things seem pretty simple. September 2, 2010 at 8:00 pm Mr. And us, the fools that we are, actually accept this way of doing business by now.
That was a very useful search…. Geri says: 6 years ago I like Windows 7 mostly, an improvement on vista and it runs faster on my machine. Based on excellent suggestions from Superuser, I've done a lot of troubleshooting. check over here All rights reserved.
