Let's try this: IF NOT ALREADY DONE: Download and save, but do not run yet, the standalone installers for KB3020369 and KB3172605 for your architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). I didn't even need to do step 2.2 in the above article to update the slow update client problem cause it was already installed in 2015 w/ other updates. how can i check whether it is getting connected to microsoft site? Last but not least, I also tried following answers to similar problem on a couple of Microsoft community answers (1 , 2) and even one on tom's hardware BUT, after all A couple of restarts made no difference: it just went straight back to 100% CPU. Additional launches = additional hung processes.
Go ahead and try running Windows Update again. In my case I needed to run both steps 2 and 3 for my desktop and notebook and this worked well on both units. You are a genius, I have my expertise and you obviously have yours and I am impressed. And now its a nightmare !
