Windows Vista Stuck On Checking For Updates
Testing various LInux distros. I was advised by Secunia PSI to upgrade to the next version, and that solved almost ALL my problems!! Reran the FixIt tool and it still detects error code 0X80070057 None of these bright ideas worked. I found persistence paid off.

Make sure that isn't enabled, and if so, double click and set it C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log If you can find it and post it here. Solution 2 worked for me.
